Results Number Vs Search Returns

Hi,

When doing a search using the field combination page once I've typed everything in it gives me the number of results at the bottom of the page. When I then click search the number of results returned is different  to the previous number. Why? Does the original number simply not include any duplicates etc?

I would also like an answer to the questions posted here.

In some of the searches i have been performing, there is a significant difference

900,000 in results summary vs. 3,500,000 in the actual results.
