Retrieving PCT and national applications filed in US

Bhawani
Hi!

I am interested in extracting patent applications filed by a company X through a) PCT route b) non PCT applications through US patent office.

In order to do so, which is the best approach ?

Approach 1: Extract PCT applications by selecting the PCT in the office field. Extract patent applications filed in US. Then merge the data to ensure none of the patent applications is missed out. I see that this also extracts PCT applications filed in the US patent office and I have  to manually clean the dataset to have non duplicate PCT applications and non PCT applications filed in US.

Approach 2: Extract the patent applications for a company together by selecting the US and PCT in the office field.

If I use approach 2: Will my patent applications be complete? The number is much less than Approach 1, does this imply that the database automatically does the selection in such a way that I get PCT applications and non PCT applications filed in US ? I would like to know how the data is being retrieved with this selection as the number of patent applications is much lesser and I worry missing out on some data.

Hello,

You can use the following queries, Apple was used as an example of a company name. Please note that company names can be spelt in many different ways.

For US national applications via the PCT route:

CTR:US AND PRIORPCTAN:[* TO *] AND PA:apple

For US national applications non-PCT

CTR:US AND !PRIORPCTAN:[* TO *] AND PA:apple
